Hi again fellow members: Not to monopolize the List but rather to share, here is one more 'secret' Quabbin spot. Rattlesnake Hill, via Gate 29 or 30, Quabbin, is another great hiking/biking/birdwatching sojurn with the added attraction of a magnificent view. The area is also great for 'odies' and herpetologists (see more on this in; 'directions' from the link below). As with Soapstone, this is another of three sites that has been cleared by MDC Quabbin Chief Forester Bruce Spencer and his crew for the public to enjoy. It is an especially peaceful area and one of my favorites because of that. You wont encounter a lot of people on top of Rattlesnake mostly because the route is hard to find and little known by the general public and because of it's steepness, (for a short distance). But it's well worth the climb, especially for those interested in observing Hawk-like birds. There are also a couple of interesting historic sites along the way. For a view from Rattlesnake Hill and directons, go to: Click here. If any of you have some 'secret' places you'd like to share, or places you've been or things you've seen, I'd be interested in knowing of them.
